Abu and Abari begin exchanging letters and see each other for the first time in 17 years, in Milan, Italy. Then in 2014, she travels to Saudi Arabia, where Abu has lived with his second family since 1991. She films the daily experiences of her Saudi pilgrimage and family reunion and dresses as a Muslim woman, and experiences daily in life in Jeddah. Today, Abari and Abu can only communicate with each via audio messages and texts messages in WhatsApp. “My Muslim Daughter” is her desire to continue the conversation between them on her own terms.
