

Angela M. Counts is a playwright, filmmaker, and moving-image artist whose work merges theater, documentary, and experimental cinema. A recipient of the Kennedy Center’s Lorraine Hansberry Playwriting Award, her films and plays have been presented in festivals, gallery exhibitions, and theatres across the country — including New York Theatre Workshop and the Alain Locke Gallery of African & African American Art (formerly the Ethelbert Cooper Gallery) as part of 9 Moments for Now, curated by Dell M. Hamilton. Her work is published by Dramatic Publishing Company and included in the Historical Dictionary of African American Theatre (Hill & Barnett, Scarecrow Press, 2009). Her plays and films have been presented both nationally and internationally. Current projects include Mark, Phillis, Phebe: A Murder Told in 3 Parts, a collaboration with Dell M. Hamilton.
